Mario Ceja, M.D.

Dr. Ceja was born and raised in Calexico, attending public schools from elementary through High School. The experiences and friendships that he acquired growing up in Calexico would influence his decision to remain in his hometown and provide healthcare.

Dr. Ceja attended the University of California at San Diego and majored in Biology and minored in Chicano studies. His job experience while in college varied from picking melons in the agricultural fields, to tutoring students in junior high school. In addition he had multiple summer jobs working as a teacher’s aide and being involved in programs designed to help undergraduate students seek a career in healthcare. While in college he volunteered at several health clinics in San Diego as well as in Tijuana, helping to provide care to the underserved community.

Dr. Ceja completed a Family Medicine residency at San Bernardino County Medical Center and decided to return to Calexico after his training. He returned in 1996 and joined the Imperial Valley Family Care Medical Group Corporation. In addition to providing healthcare to the community of Calexico, he has been involved in local schools encouraging reading and sports activities.

Dr. Ceja has corroborated with the Stanford Physician Assistant program and over the years has been the preceptor in training 5 physician assistants who continue to work in the Imperial Valley.

Dr. Mario Ceja currently lives in Calexico with his wife and two children.
